APRIL 2023

Unshakeable confidence in nursing and midwifery care

Have you watched the cultural

safety & humility videos?

To help nurses and midwives understand and apply the Indigenous Cultural Safety, Cultural Humility and Anti-Racism practice standard, BCCNM collaborated with the College of Physicians and Surgeons of BC on a series of videos. This month, we're highlighting the video "Anti-racist practice (taking action)".

Celebrating Indigenous Nurses Day

On April 10, 2023, we celebrate the second annual Indigenous Nurses Day in B.C. This day is an opportunity for Indigenous nurses and their allies to come together and collaborate towards solutions to preserve the cultural integrity and traditional knowledge of Indigenous Peoples.

At BCCNM, we recognize that Indigenous nurses are courageously answering calls to action through their leadership in social justice and are the touchstone for transforming colonial systems in healthcare. We honour the tenacity, courage, commitment, and activism of Indigenous nurses and recognize their invaluable role in meeting the healthcare needs of Indigenous Peoples.

PRIME enrolment ending April 30

This is a reminder that the PRIME enrolment window for nurses closes April 30, 2023.If you require access to PharmaNet to deliver patient care, you must enrol in PRIME by April 30 per the Information Management Regulation; access beyond this date is unauthorized and the Ministry may remove access until your enrolment is completed.

  • If you enrolled without entering your PharmaNet ID please: log in to PRIME, enter your PharmaNet ID, sign the TOA, and reshare your approval email so you are set up correctly as an independent user in PharmaNet. Please double check O (the letter O) vs 0 (the number zero) in your PharmaNet ID when entering your information.
  • If you enrolled in PRIME and do not require access to PharmaNet (i.e., neither you nor someone acting on your behalf requires access to deliver patient care) then please log into your PRIME Profile, click on the absence management tab on the left-hand menu, enter a date in the end date field and click submit. You will otherwise continue to receive emails about enrolment from PRIME.

What happens after you renew your registration?

You can begin your Quality Assurance (QA) activities for the upcoming year. Using your self-assessment as a guide, seek feedback from peers and colleagues. You'll then create a professional development plan that considers the areas identified for improvement from your self-assessment and peer feedback.
