Under regulatory supervision, Employed Student Registrants can now perform specimen collection for COVID-19 testing

The BCCNM board approved a temporary exemption, with conditions, to BCCNM standards of practice pertaining to employed student registrants, which allows them to perform COVID-19 testing specimen collection under the regulatory supervision of a registered nurse (RN), registered psychiatric nurse (RPN), or nurse practitioner (NP). These changes take effect immediately.

BCCNM and the College of Physicians and Surgeons of B.C. have been collaborating on a new standard, Indigenous Cultural Safety, Cultural Humility and Anti-Racism.

As part of helping registrants prepare for this new standard, we've put together a preliminary list of learning resources, and we'll be adding to this list over the coming weeks and months.

CNPS WEBINAR

Legal considerations in nursing and more about the Canadian Nurses Protective Society

CNPS is offering a webinar to provide an overview of legal considerations in nursing over the past year, including nursing shortages, virtual care, social media, and MAID, among others. This webinar will also review CNPS Core Services, such as professional liability protection, legal advice and assistance, and risk-management education.

CNPS invites all nurses to attend. Two options are available:

February 15, 12:00 p.m. to 1:00 p.m. PST (Live with Q&A)
February 28, 10:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. PST (Live with Q&A)

Working with limited resources webinar: recording available

In November 2021, the Nursing Policy Secretariat facilitated a provincial webinar on working with limited resources in collaboration with BCCNM, the BC Nurses’ Union, the Nurses and Nurse Practitioners of B.C., the Provincial Nursing and Allied Health Council, and the Canadian Nurses Protective Society. A recording of the webinar is now available.

Inquiry, Discipline, and Monitoring updates

BCCNM publishes a variety of professional conduct notices on its website. These notices include consent agreements, Discipline Committee and Inquiry Committee notices, and Inquiry and Discipline hearing notices. While all of these notices are public information, only exceptional outcomes (i.e., Inquiry Committee order, Discipline order, hearing outcome) and circumstances (i.e., discipline hearing) are highlighted in registrant newsletters.
