Professional responsibility

Midwives are responsible and accountable professionals who work in partnership with women to give the necessary support, care and advice to during pregnancy, labour and the postpartum period, to conduct births on their own responsibility and to provide care for the newborn and the infant.

Midwives respect the rights of each client to make informed choices about their care that the client determines is in their own best interest. In some cases, a client will request care considered outside standards when making informed choices.
