Unshakeable confidence in nursing and midwifery care
BCCNM and the College of Physicians and Surgeons of BC developed a series of educational videos to support nurses, midwives, physicians and surgeons to understand and apply the new standard.
These videos include suggestions for self-reflection and professional development, which can help you meet your quality assurance requirements.

Revised standards, limits, and conditions for medical assistance in dying
During the COVID-19 public health emergency, changes were made to standards, limits, and conditions to support equitable access to MAiD across B.C. These changes are now permanent and take effect immediately.
Revised scope of practice limits and conditions for medical aesthetics
The revisions reflect developments in medical aesthetic practice, ensure consistent practice across nursing designations, and establish requirements for nurses who practise in this area. These changes take effect August 2, 2022.
Check your practice hours
Practising RNs need to accumulate at least 1,125 practice hours every five years to renew their registration. Now is a great time to check your hours and come up with a plan if you might fall short.
You can estimate your five-year practice hours total by adding the number of hours you have practised so far in 2022 (check your pay stubs) to the number of practice hours you reported to the college from 2018-2021.
Look up your recorded practice hours
Have you signed up to the Health Provider Registry for B.C.’s Emergency Response?
As we head into the summer season and its increased risk of wildfires or floods, along with the continuing impacts to our system from COVID-19, the need for health human resources to respond to urgent or emergency events remains.
The Ministry of Health is currently undertaking a refresh of the registry and needs your help. If you signed up for the registry, you’ll be receiving an email from FreshWorks asking you confirm your continued interest in being on the registry.
If you haven’t signed up, please consider joining.
Tips for ordering controlled prescription pads
Please allow three weeks for order processing and delivery.
We process pad orders on Tuesday mornings and the pads are mailed, via Xpresspost, by the Ministry's printer one week later. We recommend putting in your order by Monday afternoon to be included in that week’s Tuesday morning transfer.
Virtual care resources
If you are a nurse who provides virtual care to clients in B.C. or outside B.C., you'll want to check out this new section of the website. We've developed a new case study and FAQs for you.
