New case study: A child in need of

protection

Maris arrives at a client's home for a scheduled post-partum visit. Brooke, the client, takes several minutes to answer the door and appears tired and distracted. Maris sees Brooke's four week-old son, Nathan, lying on the sofa crying uncontrollably. Maris asks Brooke if it would be okay if she picked up the baby, and Brooke replies, “Yeah, sure. Maybe you can get him to stop crying."

Reminders

Survey: new cultural safety & humility practice standard

Since August 2020, BCCNM has been working with the College of Physicians and Surgeons of BC to develop a new shared standard on cultural safety and humility.

We are pleased to share the draft practice standard with you.

The survey will remain open until Friday, Dec. 3.

Registration renewal timelines have changed!

BCCNM registration renewal will now take place from February to March each year. More details about renewal 2022 will be provided in January, but for more information on renewal requirements and details, check out our website.

Enrolling in PRIME

The Ministry of Health requires that all healthcare professionals using PharmaNet to deliver patient care participate in the PRIME program. This means nurses and midwives working in B.C. who use PharmaNet to care for patients will need to enrol in PRIME.

Inquiry, Discipline, and Monitoring updates

BCCNM publishes a variety of professional conduct notices on its website. These notices include consent agreements, Discipline Committee and Inquiry Committee notices, and Inquiry and Discipline hearing notices. While all of these notices are public information, only exceptional outcomes (i.e., Inquiry Committee order, Discipline order, hearing outcome) and circumstances (i.e., discipline hearing) are highlighted in registrant newsletters.

BCCNM's office will be closed Dec. 24-28, Dec. 31, and Jan. 3. Due to COVID-19, our office is currently closed to walk-in traffic.

To avoid delays in processing, please submit any registration or reinstatement applications by Dec. 17, 2021. Applications received after this date will likely not be completed until after Jan. 6, 2022.
